About Boca Raton

Boca Raton is in southern Palm Beach County, on five miles of Atlantic coast. The Town of Boca Raton was incorporated in 1925 (Boca Raton Historical Society). The city says its look was shaped by the architect Addison Mizner and his Mediterranean Revival style (city).

City limits and "Boca" addresses

Some homes with a Boca Raton mailing address are outside the city, in unincorporated areas such as West Boca Raton. The city itself warns that a Boca Raton address does not always mean city limits (city). This matters for taxes, city services, beach permits and which rules apply. The Property Appraiser shows the taxing district for each address.

The parts of the city

Downtown centers on Mizner Park, with mid-rise condos and shops. East of the Intracoastal and along A1A are oceanfront condos and houses. Florida Atlantic University has its Boca Raton campus on Glades Road (FAU). West of the city are large planned communities. Some are age-restricted for residents 55 and older.

Getting around

Boca Raton has two train lines. Brightline opened its Boca Raton station in December 2022, with service to Miami and West Palm Beach. Tri-Rail stops at its station on Yamato Road (Tri-Rail).

Flood and schools

The city and Palm Beach County both have a FEMA Class 5 rating, so flood policies get a 25% discount whether a home is inside or outside city limits. For public schools, check each address with the district's Find My School map.
